Therefore all I need to do is press button 1 or 2 on this switch box according to whether I'm watching Freeview or HDMI, ensuring the sound is always routed to the radio, giving me great quality sound at all times. Then the output of the switching box goes to the Aux In of my kitchen DAB radio, which has great sound quality. The point of the adapter is to give me a separate sound output, which I am able to connect to input 2 on the switching box.

The Roku's HDMI cable connects to this adapter, and its picture thus connects to the TV via VGA instead of HDMI. So the second solution is an HDMI-to-VGA adapter. It doesn't look like it's going to come apart or break any time soon, and because it's light it makes it very easy to mount to something. The box itself is pretty basic - just cheap plastic, and very light. All you're doing by pressing those buttons is activating a mechanical relay which switches the wiring internally - either Input 1 or Input 2 is connected directly to Output, according to which button is pressed. It's purely mechanical, there's no power cables required. The buttons press in with a clear 'click', and pressing one button automatically pushes out the other. You simply press the button that corresponds to the input you want, and that intput is routed to the output. Then on the front there are two large buttons, labelled 1 and 2. On the back it has two RCA/phono inputs, and one RCA/phone output. Works great for simple, passive audio switching tasks.
